Hot off the Press!!!

  • The Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) and Credit & Qualification Framework for Wales (CQFW) for recognising vocational achievement through the award of CREDITS FOR UNITS and qualifications across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
  • All learners will be able to transfer some of their credits (through units) across levels and qualifications to avoid repetition of learning
  • The QCF/CQFW will replace the National Qualification Framework (NQF) which is likely to close at the end of 2010(timing is constantly under review)
  • The New qualifications are called the AWARD, CERTIFICTE and DIPLOMA, the three terms are used to indicate the volume or size of work required for the qualification
  • The Level of the qualification i.e. 2,3,4 indicates the difficulty and/or challenge of the work involved
  • Each qualification is made up of a number of units; each unit has a CREDIT value.
  • A CREDIT is equal to 10 hours notional learning time (NLT)
  • CERTIFICTAE = 13 – 36 credits = 130 – 360 hrs NLT
  • DIPLOMA = 37+ credits = 370+ hrs NLT
